Why Doylestown?
Having being a frequent visitor to the area, it was only a matter of time before my wife and I began fantasizing about living here
Like many people, we began by talking about what it would be like to have a weekend "getaway." in the area. However, not being the kind of people who would want to spend most of their time somewhere they did not want to be, so we could have a two-day escape, we soon thought about what a permanent move might be like.
That was all well and good, but where? All we really knew about Central Bucks County was New Hope.
One evening while guests at the Ash Mill Farm B&B in Lahaska, a place we frequented so much that they named sheep after us, the Innkeeper suggested that we might like to dine at Russell's restaurant in Doylestown, now the Knight House and still wonderful.
While we were driving through town, we could see it's charm, even in the dark. We agreed we wanted to come back the next day to see it in daylight.
I'll always remember standing on the corner of State and Main Streets, turning to my wife Georgia and saying "I want to live within a five mile radius of here." There was something I cannot describe, call it a feeling or intuition. I had a "knowing" that I wanted to be near the energy I was feeling at that time.
I knew where I wanted to live. Aside from the charm of Doylestown, and the lovely museums, shops and restaurants, there is an energy, a creative energy that has given inspiration to many artists, writers, musicians, and poets. As a creative person, this was like oxygen to me. I needed to be near this energy.
No where other than in cities like New York and San Francisco have I seen such creativity being expressed as in the town I am proud to call my home, Doylestown, PA.
